SHORT BIO

Damien A. Joyner is a health coach at UC San Diego’s WorkStrong Program and a personal trainer for his business, Incremental Fitness™. After earning his Juris Doctorate, he transitioned to the fitness industry in 2016, gathering experience with the general population and eventually focusing on the active aging population in his business. His diverse experience includes leading group classes for San Diego’s Feeling Fit Club and Fitness Specialist at Golden Door Wellness Resort. As a subject matter expert and virtual certification committee member for the American Council on Exercise, Damien contributes to study materials, media requests, and internal discussions. He is passionate about improving clients’ quality of life and promoting mental and physical well-being through self-care. In his free time, he enjoys exploring San Francisco on foot, hiking the Grand Canyon, and appreciating sunrises and hummingbirds.

LONG BIO

Damien A. Joyner is a health coach with UC San Diego’s WorkStrong Program, where he helps UC employees recover from workplace injuries, return to work pain-free, and graduate with personalized exercise and training plans. Based in San Diego, he also specializes in working with individuals aged fifty and older through his business, Incremental Fitness™. His approach incorporates balance training, strength training, and functional movement.

After earning his Juris Doctor, Damien transitioned to the fitness industry in 2016. He gained experience with the general population before specializing in active aging. His background includes leading group classes for San Diego’s Feeling Fit Club, working as a fitness specialist at Golden Door Wellness Resort, and speaking for the Fall Prevention Speaker’s Bureau.

As a subject matter expert for the American Council on Exercise (ACE), Damien serves on the Virtual Certification Committee and Certification Advisory Board (CAB). In this role, he has also contributed to video study materials, participated as a panelist in ACE’s virtual press conference on Exercise and Brain Health for Older Adults, led the webinar “Exercise Strategies for Clients with Physically Demanding Jobs,” and featured in AARP, SilverSneakers®, EatingWell®, and Fit&Well publications.

Damien is passionate about improving his clients’ quality of life and promoting mental and physical well-being through self-care. In his free time, he enjoys exploring San Francisco on foot, hiking the Grand Canyon, discovering new music, and appreciating sunrises and hummingbirds.
